Develop your English language proficiency through the SCU College General English (GE) unit. General English helps you build a solid foundation for English use in:
- professional environments (work),
- future academic English study,
- social interaction, and
- daily life.
This unit focusses on communicative English in real-world contexts. It will help you develop your English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills as well as your digital and critical literacy, giving you the confidence to communicate and collaborate with others in English.
General English is suitable for all levels of English (CEFR A2-C1). Classes may be mixed-ability providing flexible, personalised learning within a supportive classroom environment with our experienced English language teachers.

When can I start?
It depends on your current level of English. GE programs are based on individual requirements and can be 4 to 50 weeks in duration. Generally, classes start on Mondays (except at Easter, Christmas and session breaks) as listed below:

What will I study?
All General English classes include:
- 20 hours of face-to-face tuition per week from experienced and qualified TESOL teachers
- 5 hours of independent self-study
- Computer access during and after class
- Formative and summative class assessment
- Access to library, computer laboratories and other university facilities
- Program completion documents.
What will it cost?
2026 Tuition costs:
- $460 per week for 15 weeks or less (20 hours face-to-face tuition + 5 hours self-study)*
- $270 enrolment fee (non-refundable)
*$420 for 16+ weeks in 2025
