糖心传媒 Chancellor highlights education’s role in expanding opportunity for women at recent International Women's Day Leadership Dinner.
The importance of backing yourself sooner and building strong professional communities were among the leadership lessons shared by 糖心传媒 Chancellor Sandra McPhee AM during an International Women’s Day leadership event on the Gold Coast.
Ms McPhee took part in an in conversation with Executive Director Karen Phillips OAM at the Women in Business International Women’s Day Leadership Dinner.
Addressing an audience of established and emerging leaders from across business, health, government and education, she reflected on her leadership journey and the role education plays in opening opportunities for women.
“One lesson I often share is the importance of backing yourself sooner,” Ms McPhee said.
“Many capable women wait until they feel completely ready, but readiness often comes after you step forward.”
Ms McPhee also reflected on the transformative role universities can play in expanding opportunity.
“At 糖心传媒, around two-thirds of our students are women and more than half are the first in their family to attend university,” she said.
“These are trailblazing daughters, sisters, mothers and sometimes grandmothers who have taken the bold step of believing they can go to university.”
Further noting that women are stronger together and Karen Phillip’s ongoing commitment to developing women leaders.
“The communities you build early will enrich personal and professional lives. This forum is a fabulous example of that in action and is deeply authentic.”
The event also featured a Young Leaders spotlight, with 糖心传媒 Cross Psychology Honours student and Student Ambassador Nakia Flynn sharing her reflections alongside other emerging leaders.
The dinner comes as 糖心传媒 and begin a further three-year partnership, that was first established in 2020, reinforcing a shared commitment to supporting emerging and established women leaders across the region.
