Updating Cross Connect
SCU Profiles on Cross Connect provide a location for teaching and research academics to showcase Research and Scholarly outputs, Grants, Media mentions, Scholarship of Learning and Teaching achievements, and other Activities.
Outputs (articles, books, chapters, conference presentations or papers, blogs, creative works, etc.) will be automatically harvested where possible, added by the Library Systems team when reported as research publications, and can be manually added when logged in to your SCU Profile on Cross Connect.
Activities (e.g. scholarly collaboration and activity, engagement and contribution to communities, learning and teaching practice and impact) are manually added when logged in to your SCU Profile on Cross Connect.
Outputs and Activities that qualify as Scholarship of Learning and Teaching achievements will need to be added or flagged per the below instructions. If you are unsure if an item qualifies as SoLT, or if it should be recorded as an Activity or Output, please refer to .
To create and manage your SCU Profile on Cross Connect, sign in to and complete your profile information. If you are unable to log in, please contact crossconnect@scu.edu.au to confirm access.
Set up your profile
- Sign in to .
- Select Edit Profile.
- Complete or update the information in the following sections.
Profile
Add or update:
- Identifiers, including Scopus and Web of Science (WOS)
- Register or Connect your ORCID iD
- Upload professional profile photo
About
Add or update:
- Research topics, including relevant keywords or FoR codes. After typing a keyword, select Add 'keyword' to add it, or select the FoR code from the dropdown list.
- Links
Biography and expertise
To add or update your biography, email it to crossconnect@scu.edu.au.
Keep your biography to a maximum of 250 words, written in a professional tone. Where relevant, structure it using these sub-headings: Biography, Research, Teaching, Other.
Honours
Add relevant Honours, if applicable. For Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT) awards, these can be listed as Honours, but must also be entered as Activities for SoLT reporting.
Education
Add education details if you would like them displayed on your profile.
Affiliations
Your current ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ affiliations are automatically added and updated from the University's HR system. You can also add previous or current affiliations with other organisations.
Contact details
Your SCU contact information is automatically added and updated from the HR system.
Proxies
You only need to add a proxy if you would like another person to edit your profile on your behalf.
Notifications
Update your Notifications if you do not want to receive emails from your SCU Profile on Cross Connect.
Make your profile public
Once you have completed your profile:
- Select < Back to preview your profile.
- If your profile is not live yet, the "make your profile public?" banner will appear at the top of your screen. Select it to request activation.
- Alternatively, email crossconnect@scu.edu.au to request a public profile.
What happens next
The Cross Connect team will activate your profile and import your publications. For further information, see Cross Connect and SCU Profiles.

How do I add an output to my SCU Profile on Cross Connect?
To add an output to your SCU Profile on Cross Connect, sign in and submit the output using Add Output/Activity.
If the output is already listed in Cross Connect, do not create a duplicate record. Instead, you can flag the existing output as SoLT by sending a message from the output record. Add a new output
- Sign in to Cross Connect using your SCU username and password.
- Select Add Output/Activity.
- Select Output.
Complete the submission
- What are you submitting?
- Select the output type from the list of options, such as a review, article, or proceeding.
- Search
- If you have a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), enter it in the Title or DOI box, and the system will attempt to auto-populate the article details.
- If you do not have a DOI, enter the title.
- Add your files
- Add the Accepted Manuscript or other Creative Commons (CC) licensed files.
- Do not add the published version of an article unless it is Creative Commons (CC) licensed.
- Describe it
- Enter the full title, topics, co-authors, abstract, and any other fields as applicable for this output type. The field can be left blank.
- Specify
- Enter the publication status, dates, DOI, and any other fields as applicable. The field can be left blank.
- Relations
- Search for or add any related grants.
- Review
- Select the tickbox to agree to the terms and conditions.
- Select + Add notes or instructions for this output and type one of the following notes, depending on the for this output:
- Please flag as: Scholarly reviews – SoLT
- Please flag as: Original research – SoLT
- Please flag as: Evidence based practice – SoLT
- Review the remaining submission summary and select Submit.
What happens next
Your output will be sent to the Cross Connect team to review the metadata before it's added to your SCU Profile. For outputs flagged as SoLT, once approved, the output will also appear under the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching facets within Cross Connect and be included in ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½'s institutional reporting of SoLT activities.
To flag an existing output as a Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT) output on your SCU Profile in Cross Connect, sign in to and send a message from the record requesting the appropriate SoLT tag.
Check whether the output has already been flagged
- Sign in to Cross Connect using your SCU username and password.
- Find the output in your list of publications and click the title to see the output details.
- Scroll to the bottom of the details.
- Check the Local Field information.
If the output has already been flagged as one of the following SoLT categories, no further action is required:
- Original research – SoLT
- Scholarly reviews – SoLT
- Evidence-based practice – SoLT
Request a SoLT tag
- Locate the .
- Select the three dots (â‹®) next to the output.
- Select Messages.
- Send one of the following messages (depending on the of the output):
- Please flag as: Original research – SoLT
- Please flag as: Scholarly reviews – SoLT
- Please flag as: Evidence-based practice – SoLT
What happens next?
The Cross Connect team will review your request and apply the requested SoLT tag to the output.
Once updated, the output will:
- Appear under the relevant
- Be included in ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½'s institutional reporting of Scholarship of Learning and Teaching activities.
To check whether your outputs are flagged as Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT) on Cross Connect, look at the Local Field in an individual output's details, or use the Scholarship of Learning & Teaching filters in the Outputs list to review multiple outputs at once.
Check an individual output
- Browse to the output from your or the on Cross Connect.
- Select the output's title to open the full record.
- Scroll to the Details section.
- Select Show the rest.
- Scroll to the bottom of the details.
If the Local Field shows SoLT information, the output has been flagged as SoLT.
View all your outputs flagged as SoLT
- Open the on Cross Connect.
- Enter your name in the search box to narrow the results.
- In the filters on the left, select the checkbox next to your name under Author/Creator. This returns all your outputs in Cross Connect.
- Under Scholarship of Learning & Teaching, select the checkboxes for the SoLT categories you want to view.
View your outputs that have NOT been flagged as SoLT
- Follow steps 1–3 above to filter to your outputs.
- Under Scholarship of Learning & Teaching, hover over each SoLT category and select the circle-with-diagonal-line icon to exclude it. This removes all outputs with a SoLT tag from the results.
To flag multiple outputs as Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT) outputs in Cross Connect, identify the outputs that require a SoLT tag and email the list to crossconnect@scu.edu.au, specifying the appropriate for each output.
Find outputs that require a SoLT tag
- Open the in Cross Connect.
- Enter your name in the search box.
- Use the filters on the left. Under Author/Creator, select your name to view outputs associated with you.
To view outputs that have already been flagged as SoLT:
- Use the filters on the left to select the relevant SoLT category or categories under Scholarship of Learning & Teaching.
To view outputs that have not been flagged as SoLT:
- Under Scholarship of Learning & Teaching, hover over each SoLT category.
- Select the exclude icon (a circle with a diagonal line through it) next to each category.
- The remaining results will show outputs that do not currently have a SoLT tag.
Request SoLT tags
Copy the output titles or take a screenshot of the outputs you would like flagged, and email them to crossconnect@scu.edu.au. For each output, indicate the appropriate :
- Original research – SoLT
- Scholarly reviews – SoLT
- Evidence-based practice – SoLT
What happens next?
The Cross Connect team will review your request and apply the requested SoLT tag. Once updated, the outputs will:
- Appear under the relevant .
- Be included in ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½'s institutional reporting of Scholarship of Learning and Teaching activities.
To add a Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT) activity to your SCU Profile in , sign in to Cross Connect, create a new activity, and select “Scholarship of Learning & Teaching” as the Activity Category.
Create the activity
- Sign in to Cross Connect using your SCU username and password.
- Select Add Output/Activity.
- Select Activity.
- Enter an activity title that clearly describes the activity.
- Select Scholarship of Learning & Teaching from the Activity Category list.
- Select the most appropriate from the Activity Type list.
- Select Save Draft.
If Scholarship of Learning and Teaching categories are not available in the Activity Type list, ensure Scholarship of Learning & Teaching has been selected as the Activity Category.
Complete the activity record
After saving the draft, add the remaining activity details, including:
- Start and end dates
- Course information, where relevant
- Keywords
- A description of the activity
- Scholarship of Learning and Teaching attributes
- Fields of Education (values to a total of 100)
- Supporting files and links
- Associated academics and their roles
- Associated organisations
- Location details
- Related research outputs
When uploading files, do not include third-party copyright material. If you are unsure, contact copyright@scu.edu.au.
Publish the activity
Once all details have been entered:
- Return to the top of the form.
- Use the Preview option to review the activity.
- Make any required changes.
- Select Make Public and confirm.
The activity will then appear on your SCU Profile.
What happens next?
Your activity will automatically appear under the Scholarship of Learning & Teaching tab of your SCU Profile.
All Scholarship of Learning and Teaching activities are included in reports sent to the relevant Associate Dean (Education) or Head of Work Unit for approval. Once approved, the activity will also be included in ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½'s institutional reporting for Scholarship of Learning and Teaching activities.
To add a grant to your SCU Profile on Cross Connect, email the grant details to crossconnect@scu.edu.au.
Include:
- The grant title
- The grant ID, if available
- The names of all investigators
- The role of each investigator
- A link to the grant information, if available
Please indicate if this grant is an example of Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT) Scholarly Collaboration and Activity ().
To add a Masters or PhD thesis to your SCU Profile, email the thesis details to crossconnect@scu.edu.au.
Include the following information in your email:
- The thesis title
- A link to the thesis, if available
- Any information that will help identify the thesis
Please indicate if the thesis should be tagged as Higher Level Qualification – Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT) in accordance with SCU's guidance on
To add a media mention to your SCU Profile in Cross Connect, email the details of the media mention to crossconnect@scu.edu.au.
Include:
- The title of the media mention
- Publication, media outlet, or platform name
- Date of publication or broadcast
- A link to the media mention, if available
